What To Do With Deer Skulls?
Make European Deer Mounts!
One option to do with your deer skulls is to turn them into a European deer mount.
This is a gorgeous way to show off your trophy buck and costs considerably less than a regular whitetail deer mount.
A European mount takes less room to display on your wall and can also be positioned on table tops or shelves for a unique look.
You need to keep in mind though, that a whitetail skull is top heavy and that when positioning it, it will tip over from the weight of the antlers. You will want to make sure that you have it secured or braced properly.
There are a few different ways to do European skull mounts.
One method is to simmer your skull until all of the meat easily falls off. This needs to be done carefully, as the hot, boiling water can damage the bone and even cause the skull to break in two!
Another method is maceration. Maceration is allowing your skulls to soak in a bucket of plain water and have the naturally occurring bacteria that comes from the rotting meat, eat away at the flesh.
Our preferred method is
using Dermestid Beetles.
These flesh eating bugs will clean skulls easily without having to do any type of scraping at a later point.
There are also many taxidermists that will do European skull mounts, if you do not want to attempt doing your own.
