Deer Shed Antlers
Making an Antler Hat or Coat Rack
Deer shed antlers can be used in all sorts of ways, and these decorations are a unique way to display your obsession with deer!
This hat and coat rack can be made from shed antlers, or from any deer rack that you are willing to cut up!
Cut the shed antlers 3 to 4 inches long, or whatever length you prefer. Shorter pieces will hold more weight due to being sturdier at the base.
Cut your board to the size you want and stain it.
On the back of the board, mark a center line lengthwise down the board. Mark how many peg spots you plan to use. Approximately 6” apart is a good estimate.
Drill holes through the board on the center line at the peg spot you have marked. Then drill the same size hole into the back of your cut shed antler.
The holes through the board and the shed antlers should be slightly smaller than the screws you are going to use. Drywall and deck screws both work well.
On the back of your board, draw another center line, this one halfway between your 1st center line and the top of the board. This will be for placing your hangers.
Attach shark-tooth hangers, or you can actually use pull tabs off of soda pop cans, in place of the shark-tooth hangers.
If you use the pull tabs as an option, simply place the screw through the top hole in the pull tab about 10 inches in from each side. (Depending on your board length.)
We include this hanger option, as a workable plan for any students, that might be trying to make a surprise for their family, and do not have the resources to buy other type hangers.
