Deer Minerals

Deer minerals are beneficial to the health of your herd. They supply needed nutrients to keep the does healthy, give strong growth to our fawns and are a great antler supplement for bigger racks on our bucks.

Deer love them and will return to them time after time. We do not hunt over our mineral blocks, as deer do not hang out in these spots, rather it is an intermittent stop on their daily routes.

We replenish these supplemental blocks every 2 to 3 months, so the herd can get to them year round. Most of our sites are visited on a regular basis.

Once you get an established site, you do not need to use as much as you do when you are first starting them.

We use 20 pounds to start a new site and every couple of months we add about 10 pounds to that site. We make about an 18 inch depression in the ground, similar to a bowl, to dump the minerals in. This is so the rain doesn't allow the supplements to run off.

Depending upon how much the deer dig the ground out, you may need to reshape it from time to time.

Liquid minerals will be absorbed better on a stump that is about half rotten. The stump will hold the minerals longer, much like a sponge. This will work on a fresher or greener stump, but the partially rotten ones hold the minerals better and you can more easily see how quickly this is gobbled up!

If you have a stump in a good location, you can also use the granulated varieties for this. Just add very hot water to the powder in a jug and shake until dissolved. You should pour this slowly onto stump to allow the best absorption.

The minerals used on this particular stump was Buck Jam Instant Mineral Lick in the acorn flavor.

We have used many different varieties including liquid syrups, Lucky Buck, Trophy Rock, and our own homemade concoction. Regardless of the type or brand you choose, you can rest assured that the benefits will be worth your time and investment.
