Deer Feeder Placement

Information about Game Feeders

Deer feeder placement needs to be in an area where the deer can be comfortable and undisturbed while they are eating.

For hauling in the corn or feed, placement should be in locations that have easy access for a vehicle or ATV to get to, if possible.

Don't forget about the weight of the feed, when deciding on placement for height of game feeders, as feed is very heavy, especially when lifting it up over your head.

We use a couple of 5 gallon buckets and divide the feed into them to make lifting them over our heads, a little bit easier.

When using corn, it should be run through a sifter, or sifted by hand, before filling feeders.

Rabbit wire works good, as it will get out the larger debris, that can foul up the funnel to the spreader plate.

If you use rechargeable batteries, which will save money in the long run, make sure you get a good float type charger, so the batteries will not be over-charged and ruined.

Keep at least one extra battery on hand. This way you can replace batteries as needed, and your feeder will not have down-time while the batteries are charging.

Moultrie game feeders are an excellent product and are very affordable for the average person. They also have an excellent quality, rechargeable battery and float charger.

If the deer feeders you are using, are not suspended from a tree branch, you may as well buy or build a "cage" around the feeder head, or raccoons will be able to reach the spinner plate.

Raccoons will spin the plate while their “buddies” enjoy the feast! They will empty your feeder in 1/3 its normal time or less!

We once removed 43 raccoons from 1 feeder!

When building your own wire cage, make sure the wire mesh is small enough that the raccoons will not be able to reach through it!

The corn will still be able to come out, although it will disperse in a smaller pattern, but the raccoons will get less corn!

When choosing your placement for a hanging feeder, use a chain or metal cable as squirrels will chew through rope.

The hanging styles work well, but do require more upkeep, simply because they can not hold as much feed as the larger tripod ones.

When deciding upon deer feeder placement, try to position it, so you can also have a nice view for photos, if you want to use a trail camera on it.

A game camera is a good addition to the feeder, as it will let you know what is visiting and when! This can also aid in patterning the deer.

We put mineral licks close to our feeders, and then position the placement of cameras, so both can be observed.

Here are some great game feeders, with plenty of choice for style, size, and price!
