Making A Bow String Jig

Making your own bow string jig for your crossbow servings, is pretty simple.

We started with a 2x4 that is cut 46-48 inches long. We made it this long to accommodate Tenpoint bow strings, which are one of the longest you will deal with.

Center and mount a 4 or 5 inch shelf bracket on each end of the board.

We drilled out the top hole of the shelf bracket to fit a 3/8 inch eyebolt that is 5-6 inches long.

A washer and wing nut is added for adjustments.

Find the center of your board and strike a line across.

Then strike another line at 1 & 1/2 and 2 & 1/2 inches on each side of the center.

For added versatility, we use a 12” piece of chain that will fit the eyebolt and a small S hook on each end.

This will allow you to accommodate nearly any strings you come across.

Other tools that will come in handy for the jig:

2 small carpenters' clamps to fasten to the table.

A carpenters square to verify alignment of string to jig center.

Serving your own bow string is easy to learn and will save you a lot of time and money when doing it yourself.
