Arrow Nocks
Choices for Crossbow Arrows
There are a few different choices for arrow nocks for crossbow arrows.
Nocks are either flat or half moon shaped. Whichever your crossbow comes with, is the type you should stick with.
However, if you have purchased a used crossbow and are not sure which type of nocks you need, I have personally used both types on the same crossbow without problems.
If you are worried about the proper nock, you can do a internet search for your crossbow brand to get the company's phone number.
Simply ask them what they suggest for that model and they will be more than happy to tell you what type of nock you need.
Arrow inserts and nocks come in different styles and sizes. 2216 and 2219 are the most common size.
Even though 2216 looks as if it will almost fit in a 2219, don't think that you can smack it with a hammer and make it fit!
Been there and done that, and trust me, that will split an arrow!
There are also lighted nocks you can buy. These help in identifying your shot placement easier, and in retrieving your arrows after the shot.
We have used Lumenok and do like them, but to re-use them a 2nd time is difficult, as it is designed to light when the bow compresses on it, when fired.
Wiggling it back out for re-use is not easy, although it can be done.
They also have Lumenok arrows that are ready for use and you are suppose to be able to re-use those.
The good news is, even when the nock illumination no longer works, the arrows can still be used as a normal arrow, thus making your purchase go further.
Though we have not personally used an Easton Tracer Lighted Nock yet, a hunting buddy of ours has, and does like them.
These work off of a magnet. Rather than the nock being pushed in upon release of the arrow, when it passes in front of the magnet as it is released, this triggers the nocks to light.
After retrieving the arrow, the light can be shut back off by simply running it past the magnet strip again.
He did say they worked well for about 10 shots, but after that, the light stops working, maybe due to jiggling, or being bumped on impact. The nock is still good to use, it just doesn't light anymore.
